MIR Contact Seminar: Migration and Interculturral Relations
Lisbon, May 8-10, 2003

The main aim of the MIR Contact Seminar is to initiate COMENIUS 1&2 Projects in 3 areas of the MIR Com 3 Network. The seminar will be of particular interest to primary and secondary teachers as well as to teacher trainers.

The seminar will focus on the following three themes as they are understood under the headline of MIGRATION and INTERCULTURAL RELATIONS:
- Education
- Human Rights
- Gender Issues
Important: Gender Issues (and other themes) will not be dealt with in general, but rather used as

The program of the MIR Contact Seminar is organised into:

- A separate day with full program (Thursday May 8) with particular weight on understanding the Comenius programme, discussing various possibilities within Comenius 1 and Comenis 2, and identifying the participants special wishes.

- Making use of conference speakers and workshops at the First Annual Thematic Conference of the MIR Com 3 Network Friday-Saturday May 9-10
1: conference speakers (Friday) on the three themes of
EDUCATION (integration of migrants in school; new teacher training programs addressing migration and interculturality)
HUMAN RIGHTS (ethnic conflicts and human rights issues; asyslum policies in Europe and Human Rights): how is this dealt with in schools and teacher training?
GENDER RELATIONS (work with immigrant women: setting up mother groups in schools)
2: have a separate workshops on Friday and Saturday afternoon

Price: 395 EUR
(Material/lectures, Acommodation (4 nights), Lunches (3) and Official Seminar Dinner.)
